NHPRC Unveils New Logo and Receives Award

The National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC) unveiled its new logo, with the addition of the phrase "Documenting Democracy" to reflect its mission of promoting the preservation and use of America's documentary heritage essential to understanding our democracy, history, and culture.

Founded in tandem with the National Archives in 1934, the NHPRC has awarded $168 million to 4,200 projects in all 50 states, helping to preserve and make public the papers of great Americans from George Washington to Dwight Eisenhower, from the Lewis & Clark Expedition to the fight for civil rights led by Martin Luther King, Jr.

Documenting democracy, however, extends beyond the seminal figures and movements in our national history to the records and archives in local and state governments, in archives and collections held by universities, museums, and other institutions, both private and public. Central to the role of the NHPRC is its capacity to link the work of the National Archives with the essential preservation and access work of our partner organizations, particularly our allies at state archives.
